Every business sending commercial SMS in India must register on a DLT platform. Here is what that means and how to get started.
DLT in one line
DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) is the system Indian telecom operators use, under TRAI rules, to record who is sending commercial messages, from which sender names, with which content and to whom.
What you register
Your business (the Principal Entity) gets a DLT Entity ID. You then register headers, which are the 6-character sender names customers see, and content templates, which are the exact message text with variable slots. Operators check every SMS against these records before delivering it.
Header suffixes
Since May 2025, operators add a suffix to the sender header to show the message type: -P for promotional, -S for service, -T for transactional and -G for government. Customers can tell at a glance what kind of message they received.
How TextNSMS helps
Add your DLT Entity ID, headers and template IDs in your dashboard. When you create a campaign, we check that the header and template match before sending, so mismatched messages are stopped before they cost you anything.
